Forex Signals by Trading Style: Scalping to Swing

Forex Signals by Trading Style: scalping, intraday and swing, by Md Tanvir Haider, CMT

Quick answer: Pick signals that match how much time you have. Scalping signals last minutes and need you (or a copier) to act instantly. Intraday signals open and close the same day and suit people who can check their phone a few times. Swing signals run for days, need the least screen time, and use wider stops with smaller lot sizes. If you can’t be at the screen when signals arrive, a trade copier can place them for you in any style.

The same signal service can be perfect for one trader and useless for another. A swing signal is easy to follow around a day job. A scalping signal seen ten minutes late is often a trade you shouldn’t take at all. So before you compare providers, work out which style fits your day.

The Four Styles at a Glance

Style Typical trade length Typical stop Screen time Suits you if
Scalping Minutes Very tight, often under 10 pips High: you must act at once You can watch the screen in active hours, or use a copier
Intraday Hours, closed the same day Medium, often 20–50 pips Moderate You can check your phone a few times a day
Swing A few days Wider, often 50–150+ pips Low You have a job and want to check once or twice a day
Position Weeks or more Very wide Very low You think long term and accept slow results

These ranges are typical, not rules. Gold and volatile pairs need wider stops in every style.

Scalping Signals

Scalping aims for small moves, often a few pips, in a short time.

What’s good: lots of trades, quick results, and you’re rarely in the market overnight.

What to watch:

  • Speed is everything. If you enter a 5-pip trade 2 pips late, you’ve lost almost half the target before you start
  • Costs hurt more. A 1-pip spread is 20% of a 5-pip target. On a 150-pip swing target, the same spread is under 1%
  • More decisions. Many signals a day means more trades to place, size and manage

Scalping signals work best if you’re at the screen during the hours they’re sent, or you use a copier that places them instantly.

Intraday Signals

Intraday trades open and close within the same day, usually during the London and New York sessions, when markets are busiest.

What’s good: a balance between number of trades and time needed. You’re usually flat by the end of the day.

What to watch:

  • Session times. Most intraday signals come during London (about 08:00 to 17:00 UTC in winter, an hour earlier in summer) and New York (about 13:00 to 22:00 UTC in winter, an hour earlier in summer). Check these against your own time zone. A signal sent at the London open may arrive in the middle of your working day
  • Entry timing. A signal seen within a few minutes is fine. One seen an hour later may have moved too far from the entry to take

Swing Signals

Swing trades are held for a few days to catch a larger move.

What’s good: the least screen time. You place the trade with its SL and TP and check it once or twice a day.

What to watch:

  • Wider stops mean smaller lots. The stop might be 100 pips instead of 20, so the lot size must be smaller for the same dollar risk (see the table below)
  • Overnight costs. Trades held overnight usually pay or earn a small daily swap. Check your broker’s rates
  • Weekend gaps. Price can open on Monday away from Friday’s close, sometimes past your stop

Same Risk, Different Lot Size

Whatever the style, you should risk the same amount on each trade. What changes is the lot size. For a $5,000 account risking 1% ($50) on EUR/USD, where one pip on a standard lot is about $10:

Style Stop Lot size for $50 risk
Scalp 8 pips about 0.62 lots
Intraday 30 pips about 0.16 lots
Swing 100 pips 0.05 lots

The scalp uses a lot size more than twelve times bigger than the swing trade, yet both lose about $50 if the stop is hit. This is why a lot size calculator matters more than the style. Put your numbers into the Lot Size tool of our Forex Calculator.

Where Our Signals Fit

FX Broker Signals focuses on intraday and swing setups in forex, gold, indices and oil, at 1–3 signals a day. Every signal has one entry, one stop-loss and one take-profit, and the whole position closes at one level. That suits traders who want to place a trade and get on with their day, rather than manage it.

If you want many signals a day, that’s a different style, and other providers cater to it. Our comparison of four signal services shows how they differ on signals per day, markets and price.

Automated: When a Copier Makes Sense

A trade copier reads signals from a Telegram channel and places them on your MT4 or MT5 account, sized from your own risk settings. It helps most when:

  • You follow scalping or intraday signals but can’t watch your phone during the day
  • You’re in a time zone where signals arrive while you’re asleep or at work
  • You keep making entry mistakes by hand, such as typos in the stop or the wrong lot size

A copier doesn’t change the quality of the signals. It just removes the delay and the typing. Always test one on a demo account first. Our guide on copying Telegram signals to MT4 explains how it works.

Match the Style to Your Day

You work 9 to 5 and check your phone at lunch. Swing signals, or intraday with a copier.

You’re at a desk with the charts open. Intraday or scalping, entered by hand.

You’re new and still learning. Swing or intraday. Fewer, slower trades give you time to read each signal and size it properly. Start with how to read a forex signal.

Signals arrive while you’re asleep. A copier, or a provider whose signals fall in your waking hours.

Questions to Ask Before Joining Any Channel

  1. When are signals sent? Compare the times with your own day
  2. Do the stops suit the instrument? Very tight stops on gold get hit by normal noise
  3. Can you see losing trades? Every real provider has them
  4. How many signals a day? More isn’t better. It’s just more to manage
  5. What does it cost over a year? Compare monthly fees with yearly or one-off prices

Try a Style for Two Weeks First

  • Days 1–3: Join a free channel and just watch: how often signals come, at what times, and in what format
  • Days 4–10: Demo-trade every signal exactly as posted and log each one: entry, SL, TP, lot size and result
  • Days 11–14: Look at your own log, not the provider’s claims. Could you take the signals on time? Did the style fit your day?

Frequently Asked Questions

Which trading style is best for beginners? Usually swing or intraday. There’s more time to read and size each trade, and fewer trades to manage.

Is scalping more profitable than swing trading? Not by itself. Scalping makes more trades with smaller targets, and costs take a bigger share of each one. Results depend on the signals and your discipline, not the style.

Can I use swing signals with a full-time job? Yes. That’s what they suit best. Place the trade with its SL and TP and check it once or twice a day.

Do I need a copier for intraday signals? Not if you can check your phone within a few minutes of each signal. If you can’t, a copier helps.

Should I change my risk per trade for different styles? No. Keep the same risk, for example 1%, and change the lot size to fit the stop.

Final Thoughts

Choose the style that fits your day, not the one that sounds most exciting. Then keep the same risk on every trade, size from the stop, and let each trade run to its SL or TP.
